FC Olimpik (Donetsk)

About the club

"Olimpik is a Ukrainian football club based in Donetsk. Since 2014, it has been playing in the Ukrainian Premier League. It was founded in 2001 on the basis of the Donetsk Regional Football Development Fund. The club is one of the few in Ukraine where the president (Vladyslav Gelzin) was a field player, sometimes playing in official games.

Founding the club

Football club Olimpik and the charitable foundation of the same name were established in August 2001. The club's founders were President Vladislav Gelzin and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Mykhailo Lyashko.

The persistence and ambition of the club's management bore fruit in the early stages of its existence. Thus, in 2003, the 17-18 year old boys' team of Olimpik became the champion of the region among physical education teams. And the next season, the success came on a national scale. The boys born in 1988 reached the final of the Ukrainian championship.

Performances in the Second League: 2004-2012

The boys' success allowed the team to enter competitions among professional teams. Thus, in the 2004-2005 season, Olimpik started in the Second League of the Ukrainian Championship. In the first match at the new level, Olimpik faced Sievierodonetsk-based Luchka. The Donetsk team managed to score their first goal in official matches (the current coach Roman Sanzhar scored). However, Olimpik lost the first game 1-4. However, the team managed to gain a foothold in the middle of the table and gradually strengthen its position. In the seventh year of performances in the Second League, in the 2011-2012 season, led by head coach Ihor Petrov, Olimpik beat Kremenchuk Kremin in the 21st round of the Second League, Group B championship with a score of 4:2 and won a ticket to the First League ahead of schedule.

Performances in the First League: 2012-2014

In the First League, the club immediately became "their own". It took 3 seasons for Olimpik to reach the successful year of 2014. 2014 was a historic year for the team. Three rounds before the end of the championship, Roman Sanzhar's team won the gold medals of the First League ahead of schedule and won a ticket to the elite division.

Elite division: 2014-

On July 26, in Odesa, Olimpik played its first match in the Ukrainian Premier League against Chornomorets Odesa. And then immediately gained a foothold in the Premier League. In the cup, he reached the semifinals. During his debut season, he was even in the European Cup zone. But he finished in 8th position with 26 points.

The following season, the Donetsk club finished in 9th position. In the cup, the team reached the 1/8 finals.

The club has repeatedly been involved in cases of match-fixing. On September 2, 2015, the FFU SCC recognized the matches of the youth championship (U-21) Karpaty vs. Olimpik and Olimpik vs. Dynamo in the 2014/15 season as having taken place with actions to manipulate the result of the match. FC Olimpik should have been deprived of six tournament points in the Ukrainian Football Championship among the teams of the youth championship (U-21) of the 2015/2016 season, but these sanctions were not applied (according to the table on the official website of the Premier League) The FFU Ethics and Fair Play Committee also submitted to the KDC materials about the Premier League match Olimpik vs Metalist (17.05.2015) and the U-21 championship match Karpaty vs Olimpik (26.11.2015).

Southampton vs. Chelsea: 0:3

Southampton vs. Chelsea: 0:3 The Blues are coming off a big win away to Southampton. The overall superiority of Maurizio Sarri's side in terms of play and statistics was slightly undermined by the number of dangerous situations they created. The luck of the home forwards, the timely and committed play of the Chelsea defenders and, of course, the saves of Kepa Arrizabalaga allowed the Londoners to return from St. Mary's without conceding a goal.
